Program Title

Nonprofit Management

Program Description

The Nonprofit Management minor is designed to develop leaders in the social impact sector with the vision to see what is possible in creating a more just, equitable and humane world and the knowledge and skill set necessary to transform that possibility into reality. The program is built on a bedrock of humanities, with focused study in philosophy, ethics, creative writing, theology, art, and rhetoric. That foundation allows students the ability to see deeply, contemplate thoughtfully, analyze critically, and communicate rhetorically with diverse stakeholders. We pair that foundational study with interdisciplinary study in business, organizational leadership, and psychology in order to offer our graduates a deeper understanding of the needs and motivations of the communities they serve, the financial rigor necessary to remain in operation, the project development process behind the creation of cost-effective and deeply impactful social programs, the rhetorical and storytelling strategies that help grant applications come alive and secure the funding necessary to grow the organization, and the leadership philosophies that enable organizations to build their team and maintain momentum through the long journey toward success. The program concludes with real-world applications of this learning through internships with impactful nonprofits and NGOs, a capstone project that addresses an authentic and urgent need in the social impact sector, and preparation to take and pass the Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credentialing through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance.
